Joe Rogan Experience #1924 - Andrew Santino
The guest

Andrew Santino — Stand-up comedian and actor; host of the Whiskey Ginger podcast, co-host of Bad Friends with Bobby Lee, and a regular on FXX's Dave.

The gist

Andrew Santino joins Joe Rogan for a loose, wide-ranging three-hour hang the night after performing together in Austin. They drift from the dangers of motorcycles and the precision of pro pool and golf to cults, the Vatican's abuse scandals, UFOs and historical torture methods. Much of the episode is the two trading stories and reacting to videos Jamie pulls up, from wingsuit flights to a Tibetan sky burial and a family exhuming their grandmother. Santino also promotes his new Netflix special Cheeseburger, the third season of Dave, and the House Party remake, while teasing his upcoming move to New York.

Big reveals

  • Pilots reportedly saw a man flying a jetpack in restricted airspace near planes above LAX.
  • They discuss how future Pope Benedict allegedly moved a priest who went on to molest as many as 200 deaf children.
  • The Vatican Girl case (Emanuela Orlandi, missing since 1983) was reopened, possibly tied to a forthcoming book by the Pope's longtime secretary.
  • Joe cites Pentagon consultant Eric Davis briefing the Defense Department on 'off-world vehicles not made on this Earth.'
  • Jack Ruby was allegedly visited by MK Ultra's Jolly West after shooting Oswald, went insane, then died of fast-spreading cancer.
  • Per Tom O'Neill's book Chaos, the CIA's Jolly West allegedly visited Charles Manson in prison and supplied him LSD for mind-control experiments.
  • Jeremy Roenick's story: Michael Jordan played 36 holes of golf and drank ~10 Bud Lights, then scored 52 points and won by 26 that night.

Things worth remembering

  • Pool champion Shane Van Boning was born deaf and turns his hearing aid off to fully focus while playing.
  • A 22-23-year-old Russian pro (Fedor Gorst) ran out seven racks in a row against Joe at the studio table.
  • The Waste Management Phoenix Open builds a temporary stadium holding ~15,000-20,000 fans around the 16th hole.
  • Andy Stumpf flew 17.5 miles in a wingsuit after jumping from about 35,000 feet with oxygen.
  • Outliers explains the Beatles got tight playing roughly eight hours a day in Hamburg before returning to Liverpool.
  • Joe's walkout song was Pharoahe Monch's 'Simon Says,' whose Godzilla sample was never cleared.
  • Britain has centuries-old 'gurning' competitions judging who can make the most grotesque face.
  • The Chinese torture 'Ling Chi,' or death by a thousand cuts, was used for hundreds of years.
  • A Tibetan sky burial involves cutting up a body atop a mountain and feeding it to waiting vultures.
  • David Goggins runs on bone-on-bone knees; surgeons cut and slid his bone to make a flat joint.
